Jatindra Rajendra Mahavidyalaya was established in 1986 at Amtala village in Nowda Block of Murshidabad district, West Bengal with view to contribute to educational, social, economic and cultural development of the underprivileged rural people among whom the majority belong to the minority community. The college is affiliated to The University of Kalyani. It has successfully qualified in the first two cycles of NAAC Accreditation and was awarded grade 'B' in 2024 (3rd cycle). The department of English of the college has been functioning promisingly since its establishment as the department was blessed with two veteran professors in English. Prof. Sanjay Hazra, an associate professor in English and the first T.I.C of the college and Nur Muhammad Khalilullah, the first principal of the college did laudable job in extending and popularizing English subject in the entire locality. Initially the department offered pass course to the learners. With the growing demands, the department was entitled to offer English Honours course to the students in 2008.Apart from general and honours courses, the department organises a variety of co and extra-curricular activities to shape the student’s talents for making them competent for the global job market. The department diligently imparts lessons in English to promote love for the language and literature, spirit of enquiry and originality of thought and expression among the learners.
