Department of Political Science

The Department of Political Science at Jatindra-Rajendra Mahavidyalaya, a general degree college affiliated with the University of Kalyani in West Bengal, has been an integral part of the institution since 1986. Initially offering only a General Course Programme, the department expanded its academic offerings by introducing an Honours Course in 2008 under the guidance of the University of Kalyani. The department successfully implemented the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) curriculum in 2018 and adopted the National Education Policy (NEP) curriculum from the academic year 2023, demonstrating its dedication to staying current with educational advancements. Throughout the years, students from the Department of Political Science have consistently excelled in the university examinations, earning prestigious rankings annually. The department takes pride in its students, many of whom successfully pursue higher studies each year.

The department comprises four faculty members who are dedicated to the academic growth and development of their students. The permanent faculty includes two Assistant Professors, Shri Subhadip Mukherjee and Mr. Manirul Islam. They are supported by Shri Amit Dutta, a State Aided College Teacher (SACT), and Mr. Badsha Janagir, a senior guest faculty member who retired from his SACT position in February 2022.

The faculty members are known for their cooperative and supportive nature, ensuring that students receive comprehensive guidance in their academic pursuits. To keep students engaged and up-to-date, the department organizes various programs such as Seminars, Faculty Exchange Activities, Induction Programs, Add- on Courses, Value Added Courses, Quiz Competitions, Extempore Speeches, Group Discussions, and the preparation of Wall Magazines with Government initiated competition like ‘Youth Parliament Competition’ programme. Additionally, faculty members provide necessary study materials and maintain contact with alumni to support their continued academic development.
